fabric manipulation

After writing my personal brief my ideas altered slightly, I was looking to alter fabric, but I wanted to incorporate  an element of structure and 3 dimensional form. This was when I came across the designer Camilla Diedrich,

her work explores surface as an integral part of design, her work is sold to furnish homes and spaces, places that come under the bracket of architecture, I see her work as being very architectural itself. Her work is often perceived as artwork, however she thinks of her self as a designer. I find this interesting and relevant as I often feel I wouldn't know which category my own work fits into. After this brief research I went onto produce my own shibori samples, spurred on by the book page above.

Although Diedrich's work is designed for furnishing I saw some potential as a form intended for the body. This was a real turning point within my time spent doing the 3d construct workshop. Shibori worked well with my chosen fabric, chiffon, due to the fabric being slightly translucent this allowed a small bubble to form that could be looked into. Iv always loved materials that give way to light. This worked especially well  for my subject matter as the bubbles could be filled with fine threads, this gave the impression of veins within an organ like shape. When the bubbles we stacked and formed in a long row (see middle picture) a spine like shape was formed. This really helped all my ideas to start falling into place.
