After my assessment I decided to move away from fabric and
to develop the work that I had made through drawing and painting. There were
far more interesting qualities in these pieces of work, they had 3 dimensional
elements contrasting surfaces and unusual textural qualities. I made many more
drawing trough cut work and gestural splashes of paint. I liked the synthetic
plastic quality the thick paint gave to a surface. I have used gloss paint for
its reflective quality giving a hard coated quality to the surface of the paper
and juxtaposing the dullness of the paper with the reflective surface. When two colours of paints were combined the
viscosity of the paint created interesting flowing shapes and patterns. This
ties in well with my research into layers of rocks and mineral formations as I will carry forward some inspiration from the previous unit.
I am trying to see my work as pieces that can collectively
tell a story through colour texture and form.
For unit X my work will be inspired by the marks I find, man made and
natural. My work will utilise methods with elements of unpredictability to
discuss change and evolution.
