Drawing

I did some large scale drawings in order to help my approach to fabric and work I plan to do in the dye lab. The large scale of the work helped me think about composition. I liked the unpredictability of the  ink as I used a lot of water and really soaked my paper. The idea I had in mind before creating this drawing was the idea of spread and reaction, the way the dark ink at the top spread down made me think of streetlights. I Caused a reaction to happen in my drawing by taking color out with bleach applied to the paper with a fork.

In order to influence my drawing I researched into other artists who made big gestural works. These paintings are both by the artist Michael Brunswick, there attention to subtle color change and and mark making is relevant to the drawings I have been making. The way the paints bleed together is something I may explore in later drawings. Because of the pigments and paints that Brunswick uses the paintings have an uneven surface when they dry. This attention to surface texture is something I wish to explore as I see a correlation between this and the rocks and natural structures that I am interested in.
