Lorenzo Nannie is an
embroidery artist who’s work explores organic forms through the use of making
shapes from heavy wools and adding detailing trough beading and stitch. I find his work interesting as the pieces
stand alone as artefacts that study natural structure. They have great attention
to detail and use colour in a subtle way. This is something that I should learn
and take inspiration from to help with dying my fabrics in a sophisticated manor.
He has titled some of his work as ‘specimens’, I found this an interesting way
of labelling work as it suggests that the pieces are quite analytical and are studies
of something bodily. I found correlation here between my work and the work of
Nannie as a visceral quality has been continuously noted upon within my work. I
like the way he looks at and object or surface and then translates this through
embroidery to give some representation of the original item, this is a way of
working that I feel that I naturally follow.
